|
HISTORY OF THE LUPINE AWARD Miss Rumphius, author/illustrator Barbara Cooney's famous character, was the inspiration for a uniquely Maine book award. It is designed to honor a living author or illustrator who is a resident of Maine, or who has created an outstanding work whose focus is Maine, as shown through the work's characterization, plot or setting. An author or artist is considered a resident if he or she was born in this state, or is currently residing in Maine for all or part of the year. NOMINATIONS Titles to be considered must be appropriate for readers and listeners up to seventeen years of age. The work must have been published within the calendar year preceding the award, and it must be in print. A committee of eight Maine public and school librarians accept nominations year round from anyone for their review and discussions. The award is presented annually by the Children's and Young Adults' Services Section of the Maine Library Association. Peggy Becksvoort is the current Committee chair: pbecksv1@maine.rr.com or: pbecks@mail.ms.falmouth.k12.me.us For more information see the MLA Lupine Page: http://mainelibraries.org/mlalup.html |
