Maine Libraries: Something for Everyone

Heard this slogan? Seen the new logo?

To get this awareness campaign rolling, libraries of all kinds throughout Maine are being offered FREE graphic design services to help them participate in the campaign.

The sooner you apply, the sooner you can take part in this new effort to get more people excited about YOUR library.Link to download the application: http://www.mainelibraries.com/FREEdesign.pdf

APPLICATIONS RECEIVED BY MARCH 15, 2003 WILL BE GIVEN PRIORITY

GUIDELINES FOR APPLYING:
Those applying must be representatives of a library in Maine. This campaign and its services are not limited to any type of library. All libraries, public and private, are welcome and encouraged to participate. Text and photos (if any) will need to be supplied by the applying organization.

Libraries will be granted free design/creative services (that will include the campaign theme "Something for Everyone") on a first-come, first-served basis as well as geographic location. While it is the intention to provide as many libraries as possible with this service, the committee will choose the most appropriate libraries to receive this service (assuming the need outweighs the services available). Answers to the questions on this form will help aid the committee's decisions. For a list of committee members, please visit http://www.MaineLibraries.com.

"Maine Libraries: Something for Everyone" is the theme of a new awareness campaign being developed under a statewide New Century Community grant. The effort seeks to encourage Mainers to take advantage of the many services provided by all types of libraries throughout the state - from public and school libraries to academic and special libraries, some of which may be unknown to the general public. The focus of the effort will be to encourage people in Maine to discover the many services provided by their local libraries and the valuable collections they maintain.

The campaign will begin working with libraries throughout the state immediately, with a major event planned during National Library Week in April 2003. A primary emphasis will include the development of a new web site promoting all Maine libraries (MaineLibraries.com) and the distribution of public service announcements. Another campaign objective is to highlight libraries throughout the state and to feature real library users in advertisements and feature stories.

This major effort will focus on the many services and programs libraries provide and will highlight the fact that libraries provide more than just books - they are an important part of their communities, enriching the lives of the members of the community by providing access to information, cultural enrichment activities and so much more.

BACKGROUND:
The New Century public awareness grant was awarded in June 2002 to the boards of the three Maine Regional Library System Districts, with the support of the Maine Library Association and the Maine Association of School Libraries. A statewide committee was formed to carry out the project which resulted in the development of the "Something for Everyone" theme and an aggressive strategic marketing plan. The committee contracted with Shoestring Creative Group of Portland to develop the awareness campaign.
