Dr Ross J Todd, Associate Professor in the Library and Information
Science at Rutgers University School of Libraries and Communications and Director of Research for CISSL, the Center for International Scholarship in School Libraries, will present
Quality Learning and Productive Pedagogy: Moving Beyond Information Literacy.  Dr. Todd will explore authentic research in the context of building deep knowledge and understanding, higher order thinking, substantive communication, engagement, knowledge integration and connectedness.

 

The theme of the interconnectivity of all knowledge will be explored by Carl Lenhart, a teacher of the classics at Barnstable High School who has connected with the government of Greece to establish a Summer Institute abroad for students. His presentation, Paideia: Interconnected Learning, will address bringing Socratic wisdom to the topic of promoting the unity of knowledge.

Debbie Abilock, as an Internet pioneer, has been developing educational applications of online technology since 1992. She is founding editor of KnowledgeQuest  (AASL), and widely known  for her NoodleTools, Inc.. She will present, Technology: Tools for What? Her focus is on how state-of-the-art technology can promote knowledge acquisition as well as critical thinking.

 

Topping off the day will be a tour of the Boston Arts Academy/Fenway High School Library by director Kathy Lowe, winner of the AASL School Library Media Program of the Year for 2004. Adminstrators from the school will share their perspectives on the school library media program.

 

 

 

The New England Educational Media Association is holding its Leadership Conference 2005 in the heart of Boston. The conference venue on January 14, 2005 is the Harvard Club on Commonwealth Avenue, with accommodations offered at the Eliot Hotel next door. The old world charm and standards of excellence exemplified by these well-known institutions in Boston will be the backdrop for raising impudent questions, shattering outdated paradigms, and building bridges to innovation.
