Barbara Cooney's Books

Barbara Cooney was born in Brooklyn New York . She married Guy Murchie who was an auther journelist she divorsed him three years later and then she married Charles Talbot Porter she had three children Gretel, Barnaby, Charles, Phoebe.

She joined the Womens Army Corps during Word War Two and became a second lieutenant.

Just like Alice in Miss Rumphius her grandfather carved and painted cigar store Indians and did oil paintings on canvas. Barbara Cooneys mother was an amature painter. She gave Barbara all the matirals she wanted.

Barbara went to a bording scool and then to Smith Collage. She has spent almost all her summers in Maine though she lived mostly outside of big citys because her father was a stockbroker.

At Smith Collage she studyed mostly art history courses. Then after she graduated, before the seconed world war she took a trip to Europe. In Germany there were already signs up saying All Jews Forbidded. She didn't understand it.

When Word War Two started she thought she had to do somthing for the country so she joined the army. They had some very strange coustums there. But soon she married and became pregnant so she had to leave.
