Maine Samplers Part III BELIEFS ABOUT EDUCATION |
||||||||
|
8. We believe that student self-assessment is a valuable tool for growth which also builds fromstudents' intrinsic motivation. Teachers are not keeping students in the dark about criteria for evaluation and assessment standards but are developing these jointly from the start.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR LIBRARIANS
8. A student learns more if she takes ownership for her education and if she can see where she started and where she's going. When she can recognize and report the frustration she felt in understanding Boolean searching (and/or/not parameters) perhaps she will also remember the best strategy for next time.
WHAT ASSESSMENT MIGHT LOOK LIKE Note: One type of assessment has been matched with a specific trend only as example . Please remember that there is much overlap and these methods may apply to other situations! 8. Woven throughout this section and this Sampler, you will see many examples of students being expected to keep track of their process and evaluate the successes and stumbling blocks. A prior component is also important - the responsibility of the teacher/librarian is to clearly present the standards against which his project will be evaluated. See Morning Girl in this Sampler for an example of definite grading criteria. Back to the list of BELIEFS ABOUT EDUCATION |
