Conference Information

Dear MASL members.

MASL has made an important decision that will impact you directly and we wanted you to be aware of that decision.  We have decided after careful deliberation that it is time to reevaluate the Maine Libraries Conference our annual joint conference with the Maine Library Association.  Because we want this review to be thorough and inform our decisions about future continuing education and professional development activities for MASL members, we have also decided that it is necessary to postpone the 2007 Maine Libraries Conference sessions planned for November of 2007.

We know that many of you look forward to your time at conference for networking and improving your library programs so we are planning a smaller event for the fall just for MASL members.  We hope we can use some of our time at this event to dialog with you about your continuing education and professional development needs and conference experiences that are important to continue.   Our goal is to have our evaluation complete by the end of the year so that a new, bigger and better event can be ready for 2008.

We appreciate your understanding, support and patience while we “check under the hood” and hope you’ll feel comfortable enough to tell us what you need and want MASL to provide in the way of continuing education and professional development as we go forward.

The press release that MASL and MLA will be releasing to the public regarding this study may be found in Word or web format.

Please contact me if you have questions, concerns or suggestions.

Thanks,

 Teri Caouette

Why give a conference program?

    1. Everyone needs something, and you may be the only one to present that helpful idea
    2. When you present, you organize your thoughts about the subject. In doing this you discover better ways to do something, thus you gain as much as the audience.
    3. If you allow question time for the last 10-20 min, the answers can come from the audience and you gain new ideas too.
    4. If you have never done a presentation, find a partner or form a panel. This gives you a chance to try it out, with the support of others.
    5. In Maine, we have a tradition of helping one another. Help us keep this tradition alive and well.
