To honor the work and contributions of our recently deceased Past President Jeff Small the MASL Board has
created the InVESTment Project to continue the coaching and mentoring work that he did so well.
The Project will seek to provide a listing of volunteer school library coaches who are willing to offer ongoing assistance and mentoring in all aspects of school library work.
For some this might be a simple phone call or offer to lend resources, for others it could be mentoring in the best sense of that word .... someone to talk to about library issues, new trends, technology or collaboration, someone to encourage them to step outside the box or into a new role. We hope to offer training for those interested in being coaches and assistance in finding a coach for those looking for support and mentoring.
To do that we will need both volunteers and financial resources which bring us to the “VEST” part of the InVESTment Project. We’re selling fleece vests embroidered with MASL’s logo and using the profits to provide training and resources for participants in this Project. In fact we’ve already started. At Spring Fling this year we sold the very first vest to Anne Small, Jeff’s widow. Now it’s your turn to order a vest in support of the InVESTment Project. You’ll find the order form below in the near future
We’d also like to invite you to our first InVESTment coaching event which we are planning to hold at the Holocaust Human Rights Center located on the campus of UMA in Augusta on October 14th. We’re hosting a reception and networking event for students from the UMA Library programs and we’ve scheduled it the evening before our joint conference with the Maine Reading Association on October 15th. (See the conference flyer for more information about that event.) Please plan to join us for both events and help us make these inVESTments in school libraries really count.
