SCHOLARSHIPS


Walter J. Taranko School Library Media Scholarships

A maximum of five scholarships up to $1,000 are available to MASL members with a professional degree or who are pursuing study in the library/media
field for a professional degree. The guidelines are:

1. The applicant must have been a member of MASL for one year

2. The applicant must be enrolled in a library science/educational media course / program, OR seeking 071 certification in the state of Maine OR seeking professional development.

3. Payment of scholarships awarded will be made upon evidence of successful completion of the course, workshop or conference. For a course, payment of scholarships awarded will be limited to tuition and required resources, up to $1000. Official certified documentation of grade transcripts and expense receipts must be sent to the Scholarship Chair or directly to the MASL Treasurer.
For a conference, payment of scholarships awarded will be limited to registration, accommodations, transportation, and meals served as part of the conference. Receipts for each expense must be submitted to the Scholarship Chair or directly to the MASL Treasurer. Receipts must be accompanied by an assessment of the course or conference, to be no more than one page long and including new learning and how it will be applied in your employment position. For a conference, please list workshops attended. Other educational events will be adjudicated by the scholarship committee.

4. The applicant must be a Maine resident or enrolled in a Maine based program, or employed in a Maine institution.

5. Applications must be received at least one month prior to the beginning of the course or conference.


Audrey Conant Scholarship
Asgard Foundation began this scholarship but it is now managed by MASL.

"Audrey's creative and inspiring enthusiasm reached out to everyone around her, especially to budding librarians just beginning their careers. The Audrey Conant Scholarship Fund is designed to help Maine librarians in many different ways, particularly to help others carry on the work to which Audrey was so dedicated."

MASL School Library Ed Tech Scholarship
A maximum of five scholarships of up to $500 are available to MASL members pursuing study in the library/media field for an associate or bachelor's degree. The guidelines are:

1.The applicant must have been a member of MASL for one year .

2. The applicant must be enrolled in an associate's or bachelor's degree library science/educational media program, or library technology program, or seeking ed. Tech. endorsement, or professional development.

3. Payment of scholarships awarded will be made upon evidence of successful completion of the course, workshop or conference. For a course, payment of scholarship awarded will be limited to tuition and required resources, up to a total of $500. Official certified documentation of grade transcripts and expenses must be sent to the Scholarship Chair or directly to the MASL Treasurer. For a conference, payment of scholarships awarded will be limited to registration, accommodations, transportation, and meals served as part of the conference. Receipts for each expense must be submitted to the Scholarship Chair or directly to the MASL Treasurer.
