Walter J. Taranko SLMS of the Year Award Procedures

1. Award: Library Media Specialist of the Year Award plaque, $500 donation to the recipients' school library media program, made in the name of the recipient.

2.  Awarded annually at the Maine Libraries Conference in the Fall.

3.  Nomination may come from:

  • MASL members and/or
  • teachers and administrators
  • Maine Department of Education or Maine State Library staff.

4.  Deadline for the nominations: September 15, 2008

5.  The nominations are reviewed by a committee of MASL members and the winner is selected by the MASL Executive Board.  The award is made by MASL's President at the fall conference.  A subsequent presentation is made by the MASL President in the winner's school, with the teachers, principal and superintendent present.

6.  Any who has been a MASL member for 3 years and who is working in any capacity in the library media profession in Maine is eligible to be nominated for the award.  The award is intended to honor individuals who have made a significant contribution to the library media profession on the local and/or state levels.  Although the award is presented annually and the major emphasis is for contributions made during the previous school year, earlier and continuing activities should be included in the recommendations and will be considered as part of the nomination.
