Present: Glenda Dow, Francie Aley, Tamara Blesh, Suzan Nelson, Walter Taranko, Audrey Conant, Gail Garthwait, Michele Adams, Donna Chale, Nancy Grant, Sylvia Norton, Lori Patterson

1. Secretary's report of September 11-12 retreat meeting accepted as amended.

2. Treasurer, Donna Chale's, report accepted. Year to date income of $6,030.00 with expenses of $150.00.

3. 1st VP, Nancy Grant's, report: Programming ideas for Maine Entry regarding Spring Conference due by the end of November. The MASL Board meeting will be on the Monday from 7-9 am during Spring Conference.

4. 2nd VP, Gretchen Asam's report: Fall Conference is November 6 at Freeport High School. The Board brainstormed and discussed the best approach for the focus on Learning Results and Assessment. Connie Mantor was recommended as a presenter.

5. Meeting dates for 1999-2000: Unless otherwise determined during the course of the year, all meetings will take place at the Maine State Library in Augusta in the Conference room. Meetings will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 12:00 p.m. Most meetings are held the first Saturday of the month.

Board members are expected to attend all meetings, please contact Suzan by e-mail if you are unable to attend. Also send via e-mail any agenda terms to sjnelson@saturn.caps.maine.edu.

6. Walt Taranko has been in touch with Dave Anderson, librarian at Thorton Elementary, currently in Morocco, serving in the Peace Corps. Dave is in great need of children's books (preferably paperbacks) or monetary donations to go toward the purchase of books. The Maine State Library will serve as a depository for donations. Assistance in covering the cost of postage is appreciated. Checks may be payable to MASL. Contact Walt Taranko with any questions you may have.

7. Current MASL Board vacancies are for both Public Relations and Legislative Committee Chair. Both need to be filled as soon as possible.

8. NEEMA meeting set for October 8 in Tyngsboro, MA.

9. New membership brochure needs to be created along with an updated Mission Statement. Possibly this will be the first project for the new P.R. Chair and committee.

10. On October 18, at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick, there will be an e-rate meeting from 1-4 p.m.. Representatives will be on hand from Washington, D.C. to discuss how to apply for funding. Walt will be gathering a list of reasons as to why many are not applying.

11. Next meeting is November 6, Freeport High School.
