Teri went over the activities that MASL has been involved in through the year:

- Getting librarian involvement on each panel of learning results
- Donation to a school library on the south coast hit by Katrina
- $4000.00 in grants awarded.  2006-07 grant applications are due by Sept. 28th.
- 5 Taranko scholarships were awarded to ed. techs.

- Reported on Spring Fling. The committee will work on programs that people expressed interest in through feedback sheets.

- The location of MASL meetings will vary but the day and time will stay the same, the first Sat. of each month at 9:00 AM.  The location of the October meeting will be announced. Teri encouraged people to get involved in conference and also to attend board meetings and/or join the MASL board.

- MASL supported those who went to San Antonio for the AASL convention.
- Peggy Becksvoort is representing Maine school libraries at the State Board of Education.
- Discussed whether there was a need for a school library listserv.  It was decided that we would try putting “school” in the subject line when posting to MELIBS.
- There was a suggestion that everyone be contacted through email about joining MASL.

School librarians were encouraged to attend the Tabor Terror program.

Linda Williams, past AASL president, described the work that AASL has done toward constructing language for the No Child Left Behind Act, specifically inclusion of library media specialists in the Highly Qualified Teacher piece.  She gave a handout and went over the parts that will include LMS. She explained that the only opportunity for reauthorization will be this coming January.  She also clarified that it will be up to each state to decide what “mastery” of Information Literacy is.  AASL is looking for feedback. Linda gave her email address:  jw177@aol.com or go to the AASL website.
