Membership Meeting Minutes: May 19, 1998

Secretary's report accepted: Seventeen motions made May 20, 1997 through May 6, 1998, sixteen accepted, one denied.

Treasurer's report accepted: Made in poetry form, Motion passed to place in Maine Entry, dues increase noted as of 7/1/98, (Salary based: up to $10,00 = $10, $10,001 to $20,000 = $20, over $20,001 = $30)

Legislative Committee report: LD 1995 requested $1.3M for per capita and State Library, only received $200T for State Library for one year, LD 2112 Inform ME recommends that premium service should be free to public in depository libraries (premium service is manipulating public information for a fee), postal rate problems will continue to be addressed at federal level

Maine Entry report: Requests for articles on "What else can I do with my library degree  and experience" or any other topic that will help school librarians in their careers or day-to-day work.

Information Literacy report: focus will be on Learning Results help, LR chart in the  conference packet, in Maine Entry, and planned for on the web page.

LMS job evaluation report: In draft form, will go to Superintendents, Principals, and LMS in the fall after school opens, plans to add it to web site for downloading and adapting to local needs.

Elections: Donna Chale nominated and voted as Treasurer.

Name change discussion: Became MEMA in 1974, will discuss at Board retreat and vote during Fall Conference, comments noted need for "library" and "school" in name, include support staff, Show of hands with majority wishing name change.

Maine Libraries Foundation: Work in progress on setup of the Foundation.
