The library at Lake Region High School was a hive of activity on Saturday, January 23rd of 2010. The highlight of the MASL Board meeting that day was the unveiling and beginning distribution of the Maine School Librarian Handbook which was  a complete re-write of the original handbook that was created in 1984.

Library Media Specialist Debbie Gahm chaired the committee of thirteen and used email correspondence to draft and finalize the 350+ page handbook. The Printery in Bridgton was responsible for the printing of the binder, the contents and the tab dividers. Students in the Lake Region Vocational Center's Diversified Occupations class traveled to the Printery for two days and placed the contents of the binder (printed chapters and dividers) into each binder.

The 750 Maine School Librarian Handbooks were distributed at no cost to all schools (public and private) in the State of Maine. A letter was sent to school principals informing them of this delivery and they were encouraged to meet with their library staffs to discuss the importance of the library program in their school(s). The handbook is available below so updates and additions can be readily accessible.
