Eileen Broderick, President of MASL, has been invited to become one of
the members of the State Literacy Team Advisory Board.  Stephen L. Bowen,
Maine Commissioner of Education, invited Eileen to join the advisory
Board because she is “one of the individuals in our State with literacy
expertise that could inform implementation of Literacy for ME “.

This is a two year position. The Advisory Board will work to create
partnerships to encourage collaborative work in Maine communities to
improve literacy learning.  The Maine Department of Education has
prioritized this plan in order to increase success in post-secondary
education, careers, citizenship and improve literate abilities.    MASL
will be listed as a literacy partner.

    Congratulations Eileen!

With the shift to Wild Apricot as our website host in the cloud, MASL says goodbye and a very, grateful THANK YOU to Gail Garthwait for her role as the Webmaster for the MASL site.  Gail has been the webmaster almost from the infancy of our MASL presence on the web.   Her expertise in web design and maintenance has been invaluable to our organization.

Gail has been a very active member of MASL (formerly MEMA) for many years.  She was the Library Media Specialist a the Asa Adams Elementary School in Orono before shifting to the University of Maine.  Gail was also one of the co-authors of the series “Maine Sampler” which integrated library media skills into activities associated with particular books for elementary school students.

Small wonder that Gail was one of two who were given the 2012 Outstanding Teaching Award from the University of Maine.  This award is presented each year to a faculty member of the College of Education and Human Development.  The awardee is chosen because s/he has “demonstrated outstanding commitment to and ability in the teaching area.”

Congratulations and a hearty Thank You to Gail!
